Brooklyn 99 Questions and Video Link

1. What was the task you were asked to complete?
We were asked to mimic a Brooklyn 99 intro with our own imagination and film our own snippets of each character in our group. Then to transfer our recordings to Premiere Pro and cut out the unwanted parts. In which we next added colour matte's to each character's short video. We next used the pen tool to cut around each individual character and pasted the colour matte background behind.

2. How successful were you at completing this task?
As using Adobe premier before, i was pretty confident on the majority of the basics with the app. Using the pen tool to cut out characters was the hardest part for me.

3. What skills did you have to use to complete this task?
The main skills needed to use these two apps are to have a creative mindset and to think outside the box when it comes to editing and making your final project a high standard. Also trying new tools that i haven't used before to boost my work.

4. In what ways were your skillset challenged during this project?
When using Adobe Premier, cutting around characters and objects with the pen tool found difficult. Having to undo and re-cut out them again and again to make sure they were perfect and in best shot.

5. If you were to carry out the production again, what changes would you make?
I would re-cut out the characters even more to make sure they're polished enough. I would also add a credits at the end to show that i've made it myself.

6. If you were to carry out post-production again, what changes would you make?
I would change the shots we took outside around long-road. I would show off more traits and creativity in actions.

8. Working independently was good for me as when i'm in the zone i can think and explore new ideas on premiere to improve my work. Also as i'm fluent with the majority of the Adobe apps, i can get around them easier independently.

9. What aspect of the project did you enjoy the most?
I enjoyed working out how new tools work and also adding colour mattes to my premiere project and altering the opacity and changing heights and scales.

10. How could you apply the skills you learned in this project to future projects?
When creating projects like films and video's on premiere, using the cut out tools and trimming tools will come in handy. Also using colour matte's to stand out characters and specific objects in my future projects.

Basic Photo Analysis

Taken by:
 Kevin Faingnaert
Taken at: Emmen Raceway

Image result for Banger racing photographyThere are many reasons why i like this photo:
The main reason to why i enjoy this photo is because its blur portrays that the cars moving, these points relate to each-other because it shows theres a present race.
Another reason to why i like this photo is that the person in the car is looking on side view at the camera. This connotes that he's not concentrating and it brings a friendlier side to the picture.›
There's a few reasons why this photo could be improved:

One reason to why i dislike this photo is because part of the back of the car is cut off. This degrades the image because the photographer has misplaced the car in his accuracy.

Another reason to why i dislike this photo is due to the car moving fast, the crowd are blurry which makes the picture look a little messy.

Advanced Photo Analysis

Image result for Gregory Crewdson

The purpose of the this photograph is to show his true art as a photographer.
This photo is most likely based in the US due to the American style taxi which is the main focus of this photo. The interesting lighting in the middle of the shot (steam) stands out the vehicle and makes it look crisp clear to us viewers.

Framing (PQR)

Needing space in front so others are able to see what they're doing.

Rule of central framing: getting the main subject in the middle, likely having an emotion or a certain facial expression depending on the mood.

Other rules of framing include splitting the horizon, shooting lots of foreground or more background in the picture. Not getting the split of horizon in the middle of the photo. A good time to use splitting the horizon is with a sunset or a good split of the sky.

1

 Focal length
What are the focal length options? 18, 24, 35 and 55 in millimetres.
What different effects can you create? you can zoom in depending of how close or far the subject is away from the camera
Can you think of a narrative scenario where you might choose a short vs a long one? When you're focusing on a person's mood or capturing their facial expression and when you want to see a wide shot of somebody's actions or seeing what they're doing

3.        Aperture
What are the options? 4.5, 5, 5.6, 6.3, 7.1,8,9,10,11,13,14,16,18,20,22,25 and 29
How do you reach them? you click on AV and change the dial on the aperture button on the menu
Why would you choose one of the other? depending on the lighting

4.    Shutter speed
What shutter speeds are there? The shutter speeds are BULB, 30",25",20",15",13",10",8",6",5",4",3"2,2"5,2",1"6,1",1",0"8,0"6,0"5,0"4,0"3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/8, 1/10, 1/13, 1/15, 1/20, 1/25, 1/30, 1/40, 1/50, 1/60, 1/80, 1/100, 1/125, 1/160, 1/200, 1/250, 1/320, 1/400, 1/500, 1/640, 1/800, 1/1000, 1/1250, 1/1600, 1/2000, 1/2500, 1/3200, 1/40000.

Which is best for showing the speed of an object? the best shutter speed to show the speed of an object is 1/125
Which is best for capturing a fast moving object in perfect stillness? The best option is 1/4000

5.    ISO
Which is best for blowing the image up very large?
100 ISO
Which is best for very low light?
3200 ISO
Which is best for very low light where the detail of the image is important, and you want to blow it up large?
400 ISO

    White balance
How do you change the white balance? On the camera you press the bottom WB button and then it comes up with many white balance changes that you can select to change the look on the photo depending on the lighting/weather outiside.
Why would you? This helps get the best possible picture depending on the lighting. If it was dark and you set the white balance to daylight, it would have really bad lighting.

FINAL PROJECT: https://youtu.be/cXReJkuCCWw

What genre did you decide to make the scene? (Eg dramatic, romcom etc) Drama

Why did you decide on the scenario you chose? The subject being phones, appeals to our age range.

Were there any issues with the group? On a few occasions we messed up the audio

Would you work with the same people again (any concerns about specific people tell me in class not on the blog!)? I would be very much happy to work with the student i was with during this project.

Did you know exactly what your role was? Yes, all roles were very clear.

What was it? I was the director

Did you perform your role alright? (Were you pleased/were there issues?) I enjoyed being the director as i got to control the majority of what was going on and made sure our production was as perfect as it could be

How was the group’s timekeeping? Very accurate, we stayed on top of it.

Who was in charge of this? Leah/Hus

Who did what in the group?
Director: James Norman
Time Management: Leah Ostler and Huseyin Yahya
Sound: Leah Ostler and Huseyin Yahya
Cinematographer: Josh Leighton and Isabel Cox
Actors: Isabel Cox, Huseyin Yahya, Keeley Burns and Ostler

Who was the best in their role?
The actors played their roles the best in my opinion

Looking at the final edit, what would you change if you were to shoot again? We would focus more on getting the lighting as pure as possible. Also spend some more time shooting shots from different angles.

Was the brief clear (if not, why do you say that)? Yes, we were told clear instructions and specific lesson and times to complete it

Did you run through the performances first (blocking them out, rehearsing)? Yes, this helped us take charge of the scene.

Did you meet the brief first time around? If not, what was the feedback? We did get clips and audio on the first go of filming the scene, however we couldn't hear anything.

Look carefully at the first three-five cuts you made. Why did you make them then? Because we wanted to show the scene from different perspectives (Wide Shot, Over the shoulder from both actors).

What types of cut did you use (look this up here. https://www.nyfa.edu/student-resources/a-beginners-guide-to-film-editing-vocabulary/)? One we used was a cutaway because Keeley Burns through the phone and then at the end it shows the phone.

What could happen next in the film? The two actors could start arguing as it ends with one actor talking about how people should be talking and not on their phones.
